Description of the Video
The video I chose to discuss was the Scholar of Change video (Inspiring Children with Special Needs), presented by Benjamin Isaac, who is a doctoral student with Walden University, pursuing a degree in the field of special education. In his video, his goal is to bring attention to the educational learning needs of those who have special needs. Benjamin is very innovative in his approach to how children with special needs learn, utilizing 3D animation. 3D animation can be an effective tool for special needs children in the field of education. It offers a range of benefits that can help children with disabilities learn and grow. This form of learning promotes social and educational inclusion, reinforces that children learn by playing, increases self-confidence, enhances organization skill, and builds communication. 3D animation is a powerful teaching aid that can make learning more engaging and accessible for all students.
Example of Codes
SPECIAL NEEDS
??But beyond that it is my goal to show the world that students with special needs are just that, special, blessed with differences that force them to interact with the world differently because they view it from a different perspective.?
LEARNING NEEDS
??Through this show, I intend to leverage the power of teaching in technology and effect positive social change through education. It is my hope that the characters will serve to inspire, influence, and impact all children with special needs.?
DISABILITY
??The purpose of the show was not to elicit sympathy from the masses, but to show children with special needs in a very normal light. After that the children will merely be who they are.?
Reasoning for this Coding
Coding in qualitative research for children with special needs is important for several reasons. It helps researchers to better understand the experiences, needs and priorities of children with disabilities, ensuring that their voices are heard, and their perspectives are captured. By including children with disabilities in research, regardless of environment (education or health), we can avoid misrepresenting them and their needs, and contribute to more inclusive and diverse research outcomes. I believe by developing a 3D animation approach to the learning environment, Benjamin is in alignment with his research/endstate goal of developing ??a show into an entertaining piece of media with the potential to educate the world about the true nature of children with special needs.?

Description of Video
Issac (2014) created an animated show to display children with special needs in a normal light. This show allows each child to be themselves, while allowing others to see their differences from the child??s perspective. This type of work is a great example of what researchers can use to help make sense of phenomena pertaining to special needs children because the children are allowed to be themselves on the show.
Example of Codes
Example 1: I wondered what would happen if I gave all three characters special needs; and what if they were depicted as individuals with physical and mental conditions and not definitive characteristics of who they were as individuals. A coding example for this statement could be ??individuality.?
Example 2: Research shows that students with special learning needs who feel good about themselves perform better academically than those with low self-concept. A coding example here could be ??self-esteem.?
I chose the word “individuality” to describe the first example because as Saldaña (2021) mentioned, a code is a short phrase that summarizes the data. We have to look pass the symbol and see the meaning behind what is being said. In the second example, the statement is elaborating the importance of self-esteem in order for children with learning excel.
Reason for Coding
Coding is important because it allows the researcher to think critically about what and why, and challenging assumptions (Salana, 2021). It also helps the researcher see how their thoughts and actions shape what is scene in research. According to the author, it’s just one of many ways to analysis qualitative data as well as put meaning and thought behind a statement.
