There are many different types of questionnaires, but there are also guidelines for more effective questionnaires. Personally, coming up with questions, I write them in how I would understand them. I am a very descriptive person, and for the most valid or reliable results, you do not want to leave room for interpretation, or someone after answer the questions come back and say ??Oh, that is what that was asking me?. Clear and precise questions are an important factor for a questionnaire. Another important factor to questionnaire design is time. When something takes too long, people start to lose interest. There are ways of wording things that are explanatory but to the point. However, I do like the idea of quality control questions throughout the questionnaire to ensure people are paying attention and answering honestly. I chose the article, ??The Parent Play Questionnaire: Development of a parent questionnaire to assess parent??child play and digital media use??, and they did just that. Their questionnaires were great in length, 1-hour long, but they were administered through the internet which gave easy access and the ability to walk away for a little bit. They also included quality control questions and dismissed anyone that answered incorrectly for more valid and reliable data. It did not come to mind to me before the readings this week that question order. It makes sense to have the more interesting questions at the beginning and the more generic questions at the end. This questionnaire had questions that were very descriptive and easy to answer, with scales that made sense. Easy four- or five-point scales. Another positive observation was the different scales that were incorporated, not every question was given the same choice of answers, the scales reflected the question which I think is important for reliable and valid data.

Hey all,
When it comes to understanding what principles are crucial to a great survey, I think it depends on the information you are trying to obtain and how you would like to measure that information. I know that my question is incredibly different than the next student, but if I had to choose for my research question, it would be a random sample of the trans population and those within the LGBTQ community. Although other participants’ responses are just as important, what I am trying to obtain would need to be directly from the community in which I am trying to help. I would like to combine both open-ended items so that the participants can explain their thoughts on their answers, and fixed choice items so that the material is more of a measurable answer. To create a survey of value, I think it is imperative you choose the right population and there should be an understanding of what the goal is after all answers are obtained. For example, I would like to build resources and connections for those who need help, if that is what the information shows (Rosnow, R. L., & Rosenthal, R., 2014).
I chose the
Validation of Measures of Cyberbullying Perpetration and Victimization in Emerging Adulthood. This type of survey and article helped back the understanding of where I was going with my ideas. It was a smaller sample of students, and the questions were short and concise. Giving a clear understanding to the participant as to where this survey was navigating. Lee, Abell, and Holmes also measured the validity and reliability of the information they received for their research. This article measured both sides of the spectrum, the bullier and the bullied, which I think is truly valuable when you are trying to identify an education program for those who are in need of help. According to the article, the researchers were able to narrow down answers by using fixed-choice items, which is something I was planning on using. Overall this article was helpful for me and what I would like to pursue (Lee, J., Abell, N., & Holmes, J. L., 2017).
