Healthcare information technology (HIT) is information processing using a computer’s hardware and software components for archiving, disseminating, and disseminating information, data, and insight connected to healthcare for communication and judgment calls (Sharma et al., 2022). Systems, including health information technology, range from straightforward charting to more intricate decision-support and interaction with medical devices (Alotaibi & Federico, 2018). There are several ways that health information technology may advance and change healthcare, including lowering the rate of human error, enhancing clinical results, enabling care coordination, increasing practice effectiveness, and monitoring data over time. This discussion offers a view of the technological practices used by my healthcare company and presents a technology trend I have noticed in my surroundings.
My organization has recognized Voalte phones as a trend in healthcare information technology. All healthcare workers at my organization may get protected texts on their smartphones, respond to patient call lights, place and receive direct calls, and gain crucial warnings in an emergency thanks to the Voalte technology application (Dongmo Fotsing et al., 2021). This technology encourages effective operations and makes it possible to respond to patients immediately. Also, it has been discovered that the application creates a peaceful hospital atmosphere by reducing background noise.

For patients with chronic diseases, telehealth, for instance, allows for tracking of progress and compliance with prescribed medicines, which has been shown to improve health outcomes. It also provides for the inclusion of family members in care.
Because of advances in mobile technology and an increase in mobile users, the usage of cell phones for patient care has increased. Technology advancement brings new and repurposes healthcare information. One general healthcare technology trend particularly relating to data/information observed in my healthcare organization is Medical Memory. Effective communication is key to improving compliance and increase patient satisfaction (Medical Memory, 2018). Patients and family members can re-watch an appointment or listen to communication between provider to patients by using a HIPAA compliant app and recording tool. The challenges that arise from using Medical Memory was the population of patients my central-city hospital admitted. Majority of our patients that are admitted frequently are considered homeless or without internet access. This was difficult to communicate the tool with those having no email address or knowledge of technology use. One potential benefit is that it is captures a digital footprint confirming patients watch and consent to videos protecting the provider and practice (Medical Memory, 2018). One potential risk that I noted when using the app was when recording in a vulnerable environment with so much happening, it was hard to record a video without noise in the background – the audio can pick up audio from other provider-patient interaction.
One healthcare technology trend that I believe are most promising for impacting healthcare technology in nursing practice is telehealth services. For example, a study by McElroy et al. (2020) noted that telehealth is a creative solution for optimal health care. This improves patient care outcome, efficiencies, or data management by giving another option to introduce patients and care technologies, to take an active role in treatment plans and evaluation of treatment outcomes (Rao-Gupta et al., 2018).
