Using Berlin City as my Chosen City
Write an essay as you have been appointed as the chief technical adviser (CTA) of that city’s strategic planning group for SDG11. The group reports directly to the Mayor/chief executive/ commissioner of the city. As the CTA you are expected to do thorough research on that city and also the wider literature and write a succinct report covering any three of the following issues. You must cover at least three issues.
Your essay must clearly identify which three issues you are going to address. There can be inter-connections between the three parts but make sure each issue is fully addressed. Learning from the Lewis or Alonso models: Does the data for the country or the city indicate that either Lewis or Alonso model is at work here? What are the policy implications of this? What should be done better or differently to use the insights from these models for improving the quality of life of those who have migrated to the city recently?
Smart city: Is your city already pursuing smart city project? Following Anand’s(2021) classification of smart cities into four categories, what type of smart city is it? Do you think this city can use smart city project as an opportunity to really address some of its core challenges?
